Machine Description
1998 Bally Midway Champion Pub
Designer: Pete Piotrowski Artists: Linda Deal, Paul Barker Software: Dwight Sullivan
Set in a 1920s boxing pub, players advance through rounds by defeating five opponents to become "Pub Champion." This innovative machine features interactive training elements including a rotating punching bag/boxer figure, jump rope mini-playfield, and speed bag training area. Fighters from different countries are vocal as they taunt the player who is referred to as "The Kid". An original theme concept which was a refreshing relief from games licensed after movies or personalities.
One of the final Williams/Bally pinball machines before the company shifted focus, Champion Pub represents the culmination of late '90s Dot Matrix Display pinball technology and creative mechanical design. Bally designers like Steve Kordek and Linda Deal are featured in the backglass art.
